What is Neurofibromatosis?
Neurofibromatosis is a multi-system disorder which encompasses a group of distinct genetic conditions:
These conditions cause tumours to grow along nerves and can affect the development of other tissues such as bone and skin. The tumours may grow anywhere on or inside the body and may lead to complications including changes in appearance, smaller stature and larger head, vision or hearing issues, learning difficulties and higher risk for malignancies.
Every person’s experience with Neurofibromatosis is unique and symptoms can vary widely, including between a Neurofibromatosis affected parent and their child.
No person with Neurofibromatosis will develop every potential complication.
Neurofibromatosis-related challenges can range from none to more complex medical issues.
